Religious Legalism vs The Gospel

Legalism – I obey, therefore I am accepted.
Gospel – I am accepted, therefore I obey.

Legalism – God will love me if I change.
Gospel – God will change me because He loves me. 

Legalism – based on fear or pride.
Gospel – based on joy and humility.

Legalism – My identity and self-worth is based mainly in how hard I work.
Gospel – My identity and self-worth is based solely in Christ and his work on my behalf.

Legalism – Righteousness is achieved by what I do.
Gospel – Righteousness is imputed to me by Jesus.
