The Historical Reliability of the Virgin Conception

Luke 1:31 The virgin conception is historically reliable The Genesis 3:15 prophecy gave a Messianic expectation from ancient history. Isaiah prophesied the greatest physical expression of God’s presence would be virgin born (Isaiah 7:14). The gospel writers authored independent claims. The locals knew Mary had an unplanned pregnancy (John 8:41). There is convincing historical evidence Jesus rose from the dead. Paul, a convert of the resurrected Christ, believed Jesus was the fulfillment of Genesis 3:15 (Galatians 4:4).

1 John 2:28-3:3 Why followers of Jesus have hope… We can have confidence before Christ when He returns (1 John 2:28-29). We are God’s children (1 John 3:1-2a). We look ahead to our full transformation (1 John 3:2b-3). He will appear We will see Him We will see Him as He is We will be like Him

The Hindrance of Worldliness

1 John 2:15-17 We must love God and not the world’s system. Because the world’s virtues are not God’s virtues (1 John 2:15b-16). Because the world’s system is temporary (1 John 2:17).

Keeping Christ in Our Christianity

1 John 2:1-6 We must keep Christ’s commands to fellowship in Christ… We are able not to sin. Christ makes restored fellowship possible if we do sin. Advocacy Propitiation God’s love is maturing us.

The Limitations of Human Wisdom

Ecclesiastes 9:1-10:20 Wisdom does not spare anyone from death (Ecclesiastes 9:1-10). Wisdom does not prevent unexpected events (Ecclesiastes 9:11-12). Wisdom is unappreciated (Ecclesiastes 9:13-16). A wise reputation is easily tainted (Ecclesiastes 9:17-10:20).
