1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“We need to realize that trials are not joyful in and of themselves, but they are joyful when we realize they are under the authority of a sovereign God who is accomplishing his purposes through them.” – David Platt
We can be thankful:
- in trials – for they allow us to see His deliverance. (Deuteronomy 7:19)
- in brokenness – for in it we receive His healing. (Psalm 147:3)
- in affliction – for it enables us to feel His comfort. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
- in uncertainty – so we can know His peace. (Philippians 4:6-7)
- in disappointment, because we know His plan is better. (Jeremiah 29:11)
- in weakness – for in it His strength is perfect. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
- in loneliness – for it is then we can rest in His presence. (Psalm 16:10-11)
- in emptiness – for it is then we can feel His fullness. (Psalm 42:1-2)
- in loss – for with it we can experience true gain in Christ. (Philippians 3:8)
- in sorrow – because we get to experience His joy. (John 16:20-24)
